Remembering Hartman "Pluck" McKenzie, Rest in Peace 2021

Jan Pehrson August 21, 2021

PLUCK'S LAST RIDE. This much loved Bahamian sailor was buried in Rolleville, Exuma, Bahamas today. These are the Family Islands, known as the friendliest in the Bahamas. Large families of cousins race against each other in wooden sailing sloops that have been in their families for generations. These families are so generous they have adopted me, making me one of Pluck's dozens of cousins. Today Pluck's cousins and shipmates, pulling the family sloop “Fugative” as a hearse, carried his coffin through the streets of Rolleville. In his memory, a Bahamian printer and graphic artist made "Pluck buttons" and "Pluck mugs" from my photo of Pluck doing what he loved, sailing “Fugative” fast!
